Amauroderma rude is a large mushroom native to Australia that occurs also in the Arima Valley of Trinidad. It is presumably the largest mushroom in Trinidad and is found in mesic tropical forests.
A member of the family Ganodermataceae, its extracts have been tested for their effect on growth of breast cancer cells. Results are encouraging – they are very effective in inhibiting these cancer cells’ growth.
For naturalists, it is a thrill to find such large mushrooms.
