Imperial Moth, Eacles imperialis, Unfurling its Wings

We found quite a number of Imperial Moths the evening of May 25th. Many were fully metamorphosed and fluttering about in vegetation or sitting near lights on the research station. Presumably, they spend their pupation period underground as the species does in North America. Always a large and lovely moth to find!
