Terrestrial leeches are rarely encountered by us in Trinidad. Their definitive identification relies on a specimen in hand by an expert. From the photos, Dr. William Moser, National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian), believes they are either Cylicobdella coccinea Kennell, 1886, or Lumbricobdella schaefferi Kennell, 1886. Both of these species are red, both are members of the Family Cylicobdellidae, and the type locality for each is Trinidad. Aspects of the anatomy not seen in the photos are important in differentiating the species.
