Fancy-leaved tococa, Tococa guinensis with domatia

All photos by Bob Thomas, May 2010.

Tococa is a member of the Neotropical plant family Melastomatacae.  They have domatia, chambers produced by the plant, at the base of leaves.  These domatia provide a living area for mutualistic ants, making them more approriately called myrmecodomatia.
