Bush crickets have to be the most scared critters in the rain forest. EVERYTHING eats them! They have an interesting defense. As they sit in the dark, they rapidly move their very long antennae in random directions. If the antenna touches something that wasn’t there before (like a spider or peripatus), the use their long rear legs to hop away.
This must work. There are plenty of them in the forest. But it might be a high reproductive rate that keeps them ahead of the predators.
