Tropical travelers know these signs.  Top is a leaf that has been cut by leaf cutter ants (half moon sections removed).  The middle photo is of the leaf cutter highways.  The lower photo is a pile of cuttings that were in transit to the nest, but something (rain drops, hot sun suddenly hitting the trail) caused the ants to drop the cuttings and abandon them.  One thing is sure, they will return to their hard earned cuttings.
